an Egyptian burial

reduced, reused ..
time is not on my side.
propriety withdraws from me. i feel
i’d feel more fortunate,
if i’d hoarded all my things.
my impediment is past
and the past is my impediment.
as contemptible and heavy
and ridiculously heedless
as a hitch on a hearse
pulling a burdensome load
through a grieving procession.
they chide themselves
but they miss the lesson.
